Beech-Hardwood Forest

As one of the original habitat reserves, this 119-acre (48.2 ha) Set-Aside was selected to represent bottomland floodplain and ravine forest habitats associated with the lower reaches of the relatively nonimpacted Upper Three Runs Creek. This Area is unique because some of the tree species found here are not common in the Coastal Plain and are more likely to be found in the Piedmont or Mountain physiographic provinces. This Area also has a small number of beech trees (Fagus grandifolia), a species not found in abundance elsewhere on the SRS. Approximately half of this Area is within the floodplain of Upper Three Runs Creek.
